Microlight Aircraft Pilot (ULL), Paraglide and Hang-Glider Pilot, Skydiver

A medical examination is required for pilots of sport flying devices and parachutists. I strive for a sensitive and professional approach towards fellow pilots and parachutists so that the examination is not stressful or uncomfortable. I emphasize a friendly environment and aim for open communication with the pilot. The examination by an aviation medical examiner is meant to reassure pilots that their health allows them to fly and jump safely. Another goal of the medical examination is to recommend treatments for chronic conditions in such a way that they do not pose a risk while operating an aircraft or parachuting. Thanks to advancements in medical science, it is now possible for almost everyone to fly. The overall success rate for examinations and obtaining a Medical Certificate is over 99%, which meets world standards, so there is no reason to be afraid of the examination. In modern aviation medicine, we no longer look for health reasons to prevent flying; rather, we seek ways to enable you to fly.

What is the procedure of the medical exam?

  • I always set the exam appointments for a specific time and my surgery is open whole day. It is not necessary to come early in the morning; you only need to arrive at the prearranged time.
  • I make sure pilots don't wait for me and I observe the appointment times.
  • The exam takes about 30 minutes, during which I will be fully dedicated to you.
  • The Medical Certificate is issued immediately after the exam.
  • It is not necessary to come on an empty stomach.
  • The price of the examination is listed here. The prices are final, and I do not require any additional fees.

Who can come to me for a medical examination for fitness to operate sport flying devices and for parachuting?

  • Any pilot with a license for sport flying devices, whether flying ultralight aircraft, ultralight helicopters, gyroplanes, ultralight gliders, powered ultralight gliders, hang gliders, and both powered and unpowered paragliders, as well as all sport parachutists, including tandem pilots and drop zone operators.
  • Anyone undergoing training for these aircraft and parachutes.
  • Any holder of a medical certificate for sport flying devices.
  • The medical certificate I issue must be accepted by all authorities and operators in the Czech Republic according to regulations. This certificate is not accepted abroad, and for flying internationally, a Class 2 Medical Certificate for private pilots is required in most countries. There are exceptions to this rule; for example, Slovakia accepts this certificate, as do some other countries. However, it is not their obligation, as it depends on the decision of the local authorities, and it is necessary to inquire in the specific country.
  • I also renew limited certificates and certificates issued on the basis of an exception if you suffer from a serious illness.
  • I can renew or reissue a Medical Certificate whose validity has already expired at any time.
  • If you have a Class 1, Class 2, or LAPL Medical Certificate, it is also valid for sport flying devices and parachuting. Each pilot or parachutist can have only one Medical Certificate for all aircraft and parachutes.

What examinations do I perform to obtain a medical certificate for fitness to operate sport flying devices and for parachuting?

  • I only conduct examinations mandated by the binding procedure issued by the Civil Aviation Authority regarding the Požadavky na zdravotní způsobilost. This regulation is issued only in the Czech language.
  • I do not perform any additional examinations that are not required by regulation or that are not necessitated by the pilot’s health condition.
  • I do not conduct any traditional psychological tests.
  • I have all the necessary equipment and devices for the standard examination. Unless there is a reason stemming from your potential illness, I will not refer you to any other doctors, and you will not have to wait in any other waiting room.
  • I perform clinical examinations, EKG, eye examinations, ENT examinations, and urine tests as specified in the Požadavky na zdravotní způsobilost.
  • Only under justified circumstances will additional examinations be necessary.

Where and when can I make an appointment for the examination?

  • You can make an appointment online via the internet in Prague or Ostrava. It is also possible to book by phone (+420 603 423 470), email (melechovsky@leteckylekar.cz), or through Facebook.
  • You can schedule a phone appointment on any working day between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • You can find the address, map, public transport connections, parking recommendations, and other details in the Contacts section.
  • If you come for an examination up to 45 days before the expiry of your previous Medical Fitness Certificate, its validity will not be shortened, meaning that by coming earlier, you do not lose any time from the remaining validity of your previous certificate.
  • If you are taking any medications regularly or being treated for a chronic illness, please inform me when booking the appointment. This way, we can agree in advance on any additional necessary examinations, saving you an extra trip to my office.
  • The Medical Fitness Certificate for pilots of sports flying equipment and parachuting is valid for 5 years. After the age of 40, the validity period is reduced to 2 years. Over the age of 75, it is valid for 1 year. The validity period of the medical fitness certificate for ultralight aircraft pilots, paragliders, hang-gliders, parachutists, and pilots of other sports flying devices is determined by Act No. 49/1997 Coll., on Civil Aviation, §84c. This law is issued only in the Czech language.

What should I take with me for the medical exam?

  • Please bring your identification document. If you have previously had a Medical Fitness Certificate, bring it with you as well.
If you wear glasses, it is necessary to bring them to the examination. You may also bring contact lenses, but under certain circumstances, I will need to examine you without them, and you will be required to remove them in my office.
  • You do not need to bring a medical reports from a medical facility or an aviation doctor where you were previously examined for medical fitness. I do not require a report from your general practitioner or any other medical documentation.
  • If you suffer from a serious illness, please inform me in advance when booking the appointment. In such cases, a report from your attending physician or information from your previous aviation doctor may be required under certain circumstances.
  • The Medical Fitness Certificate application form can be filled out in advance, or we can complete it together in my office. Pay attention to filling out this document correctly and truthfully, as it has legal consequences in the event of an aviation accident. You can print it from this website and fill in the first page beforehand. Write in large, clear, and legible block letters. If you are unsure about any part of the form, feel free to leave it blank, and we will complete it together in my office. If you are underage, fill out the form in advance and have it signed by your legal guardian, usually a parent.
