I am appointed by the Civil Aviation Authority to renew the Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificate for air traffic controllers (ATCo).
I strive for a sensitive and professional approach to all patients to ensure that the examination is not stressful or unpleasant. I maintain a modern approach to aviation medicine that corresponds to the current state of knowledge in medicine. I obtained my education in aviation medicine at King's College in London, and my goal is to apply European procedures in the practice of aviation medicine.
I myself hold a commercial pilot qualification. I utilize my knowledge of the working environment of transport and commercial pilots in my work. My aviation education allows me to understand the needs of pilots and the requirements that air traffic controllers must meet.
How does the examination proceed?
- Appointments are scheduled for specific times, and I operate throughout the day. There is no need to come early in the morning, just at the pre-arranged time.
- I make sure that pilots do not wait and adhere to the appointment schedule.
- The examination in my office lasts about 60 minutes, during which I continuously attend to you.
- I issue the Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificate immediately after the examination.
- There is no need to come on an empty stomach.
- I do not require women to have a gynecological examination as a standard.
- The examination costs 2200 CZK, and an extended examination costs 3200 CZK; this is the final price.
Who can come for a Class 3 examination?
- Any air traffic controller without exception.
- Anyone undergoing air traffic controller training without exception.
- Any holder of a Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificate.
- The Class 3 certificate issued by me must be recognized by all authorities and airlines in the European Union according to regulations.
- I also extend limited licenses and licenses issued based on exceptions, including air traffic controllers with any kind of health issues.
- I extend Class 3 certificates obtained abroad according to the rules of Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340.
- I renew all Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificates that have already expired, provided that no more than 5 years have passed since the expiration.
- I currently do not conduct examinations for the initial issuance of a Class 3 certificate.
- Upon request, I issue Medical Fitness Certificates of other classes for other aviation qualifications at a discount when issued alongside the Class 3 examination.
What examinations do I perform for Class 3 renewal?
- During the examination, I only perform those tests required by Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340.
- I do not conduct any additional examinations that are not required by this regulation or deemed necessary due to the health status of the air traffic controller.
- I conduct clinical examinations, ECGs, audiometric tests, laboratory tests, eye examinations, ENT examinations, urine tests, and psychological evaluations as specified in Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340 and by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic.
- The psychological evaluation is conducted through an interview with the aviation doctor according to recommended procedures, and only in justified cases through an interview with a psychologist. I fundamentally never conduct any traditional psychometric tests or performance tests.
- I have all the necessary equipment and instruments for both basic and extended examinations. Unless there is a reason arising from your potential illness, I will not refer you to any other doctors, and you will not have to wait in any additional waiting rooms.
Where and when can I make an appointment for the examination?
- Make your appointment over the Internet, in Prague, Ostrava. It is also possible to make your appointment by phone (+420 603 423 470), e-mail (melechovsky@leteckylekar.cz) or via Facebook.
- Phone appointments can be made on any working day from 8:00 to 18:00.
- You can find the address, map, public transport connections, parking recommendations, and other details in the Contacts section.
- If you come for an examination up to 45 days before the expiration of your previous Medical Fitness Certificate, its validity will not be shortened. Therefore, by arriving early for the examination, you do not lose any time during which the previous Medical Fitness Certificate should still be valid.
What should I bring to the examination?
- Please bring your identification document, Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificate, and glasses if you wear them. Also, bring your medications if you are taking any.
- You do not need to bring a "card" from the medical facility where you were last examined for the Class 3 certificate. I do not require a report from your general practitioner or any other medical documentation.
- If you suffer from a serious illness or are consistently taking new medications, please inform me in advance when making your appointment. In such cases, a report from your attending physician may be required under certain circumstances. It is advantageous to agree on the procedure in advance when booking.
- The Application Form for the Medical Fitness Certificate can be filled out in advance, or we can complete it together in my office. This form is primarily intended for pilots, so simply skip questions specifically intended for pilots (which aircraft to fly, how many flying hours you have, etc.)
What rules govern the examinations, and which requirements are decisive?
- They are governed by Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340, issued by the European Commission.
- This regulation is specified in the binding document Acceptable Methods of Evidence and Guidance Material for Part ATCO.MED.
- The validity of the Class 3 Medical Fitness Certificate is two years; above the age of 40, the validity is one year. This validity period of the certificate is stipulated by Regulation (EU) 2015/340.
